For Writers:

Writing is, by necessity, a solitary endeavor. But storytelling comes alive in community—when a text finds its audience. And at some point in your work, you may well find you need a dedicated, experienced reader and editor. Every project is unique, and every manuscript deserves an editorial approach tailored to its needs at that specific juncture in its development. I can offer any combination of the following, depending on the project:

  • Close reading of your manuscript

  • Brainstorming sessions via zoom

  • Detailed line edits

  • High level feedback on narrative tension, plot structure, themes, dialogue, scene & setting, and character development

  • Suggested reading for inspiration, market comps, and deepening understanding of craft

My approach is to listen closely to what each writer is looking for, and to read closely to see what each manuscript is trying to achieve. I can offer gentle feedback on an early draft; rigorously polish a completed manuscript before it goes out on submission; or problem solve tricky issues of plotting, voice, or character development. Writing, revision, and editing are a long road—my job is to walk with you along some part of that road and help clear the way for your project to continue evolving into its best possible version. I’m most experienced with prose (short stories, novels, essays, and memoir), but I’m happy to consider other projects as well. If you have a writing project that feels ready for editing, please contact me and we can discuss.

Nonprofit Consulting:

Running a nonprofit is a creative juggling act—one I understand well. I have 15 years of experience in nonprofit management, and in that time I faced more opportunities for creative problem-solving than I can count. There is considerable overlap with my editorial work here, because succeeding as a nonprofit is also largely about compelling storytelling: how to communicate to your audience, donors, board members, and prospective supporters who you are, what you’re trying to do, why it matters—and exactly how they can contribute meaningfully. Everything your organization shares should all work in concert to tell the same story, hone your identity, and refine your ask: every event, every social media post, every graphic, and every element of your fundraising materials. I have a depth and breadth of experience that I would love to share wherever it may be valuable. If your organization is facing questions of how to shape your mission and creative direction, allocate resources, prepare for a transition to new leadership, or communicate with your audience—please reach out. Sometimes, just brainstorming with an outsider with relevant experience and fresh eyes can be enormously productive.
