About
I’ve spent my working life in service to contemporary literary culture and connecting through art. I’m fascinated by the gravitational pull of narrative, the way the human mind looks for stories everywhere. That curiosity has shaped all my endeavors, from nonprofit management to editorial work. I live in San Francisco with my husband and our two dogs, Penny and Moose—and stacks upon stacks of books.

My Work
For over a decade, I served as the Editor and Executive Director of ZYZZYVA, Inc. In that time, I directed the editorial vision and policies of the journal, published 34 print issues, and built the professional infrastructure of our independent nonprofit organization. I spearheaded a redesign of the print journal and two website redesigns, expanded the journal’s programming (including creating remote and in-person workshops), developed the presence of visual arts in the journal, added in-depth author interviews, created a program of successful fundraising campaigns and grant applications, created and maintained a robust internship program to foster opportunities for the next generation of editors, and championed the continued excellence of the journal’s content. During my tenure, work from the journal was frequently recognized by the Best American series, and the Pushcart and O.Henry Prize anthologies. The journal received The Council of Literary Magazines and Presses’ Firecracker Award for Best Magazine in 2019, and was awarded both a Whiting Literary Magazine Prize and the Recognition Award from the Northern California Book Awards in 2022. In 2023, I shepherded the journal through a successful transition to new leadership, and later consulted with the journal as Editor At Large.
I have been a speaker and panelist at many conferences and schools, including The LA Times Festival of Books, The Community of Writers, Saint Mary’s College, Whittier College, USF, Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, and Litquake. I hold a B.A. and an M.A. from New York University, where I wrote a prize-winning thesis (on Samuel Beckett, W.G. Sebald, and post-Holocaust narratives of the journey).
I now serve on the board of New Literary Project; on the jury for the Joyce Carol Oates Prize; on the planning committee for the Jewish Arts & Book Festival; and work independently as a developmental editor and freelance consultant.
